ACTIVE PASSIVE VOICE

I. Active sentence is a sentence that subject act as principals who actively perform an action that is expressed in the predicate to the object.
Examples
• The man must have eaten five hamburgers
The man (subject) is doing the eating (verb)
• Marilyn mailed the letter
Marylin (subject) is doing the mailing (verb)

 Characteristic features
The characteristics of the active voice is the construction of a sentence is the basic form of the “verb” or “to be”

II. While Passive Sentence is a sentence where the subject was subjected to the job by the object of the sentence.
Examples
• Five hamburgers must have been eaten by the man
Hamburgers (subject) are being eaten (verb)
• The letter was mailed by Marilyn
The letter (subject) was being mailed (verb)

 Characteristic features
Construction of a sentence assembled using “to be / be” followed by Verb 3, and is usually followed by the phrase “by”

III. Transitive and Intransitive Verb
Transitive and Intransitive both a verb, but only transitive that can be used to form the passive voice.
 Transitive verbs are action verbs that have an object to receive that action. In the first sentence above, the direct object ball received the action of the verb hit.
active : Rezki wrote a blog
Passive : a blog was written by Rezki
the above is a transitive sentence because it has a subject and can be changed to a passive form while a sentence that can not be changed to a passive form is Intransitive verbs.
Example of transitive words
ask, bring, buy, explain, clean, kick, learn, paint, sell, want, etc

 Intransitive verbs are action verbs but unlike transitive verbs, they do not have an object receiving the action. Notice there are no words after the verb sang.
Rezki won (This can not become passive because they do not have the object after the verb)
Example of intransitive words
come, die, go, lie, sneeze, sit, won, etc
